If there’s one truth in life (besides death and taxes), it’s that, at some point or another, we all get in a slump. There will be days (or weeks…or months…or seasons…) where you will feel bored, stuck, and just plain unmotivated.
Ironic as it may seem, I find that comfort is one of the biggest reasons we can feel discontented. While a certain level of routine and predictability helps us thrive and retain control, too much routine can leave us bored and uninterested. Things are just too simple and unengaging.
When we think of mindfulness or the act of becoming more mindful, we are often consumed with notions of reclusive meditation, or hiking in pristine, outdoor spaces removed from the chaos and buzz of urban living. But if we had to go to that much trouble to actually practice mindfulness...
So this Science of Happiness Academy that I took while at the World Domination Summit last month, yep, I’m still going through my notes and sifting out the gems. One of them was learning that as Happiness is a skill that needs to be practiced! One way to do that? Know what your top skills are and practice more of those!
If you asked me a few years ago, “what gives you joy?”, I’d prattle off a few things that I liked to do, but on the inside, when I asked myself that question….
Here’s the thing about gratitude, it requires practice for it to really boost our mood. Gratitude helps people return focus to what they have instead of what they lack. And, although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice.
