We don’t spend enough time outdoors! Unless you are an outdoor activity guide, the probability is that none of us get enough time outside. Even I get caught up in work and cooking and other activity that all pretty much takes place indoors. Which leads to less movement, less breathing of fresh air and less sunshine vitamins – what?
Let’s not forget about the wonderful vitamin that the sun provides us – Vitamin D! Sunlight on bare skin naturally initiates the conversion of cholesterol in the skin to vitamin D3. Just 20 minutes of sun exposure each day can provide a lot of Vitamin D. For example, if you are in shorts and a t-shirt, 20 minutes would provide approximately 1,500 IU of the good stuff. And getting a consistent dose like that, is much better than having to remember to take yet another supplement each day!
Lately I have been making a special effort to get outside more often. I know it’s good for the body to get out and move, but it’s also fantastic for the mind too! Beyond the obvious reasons such as exercise and movement, I share with you 3 lesser known benefits for getting more time in nature in the video below. One of those may even surprise you!
