The more I learn about health, vitality and optimizing performance, the more I realize just how much everyone puts up with in terms of health. Most people don't even realize they are sick because we have become numb to the signs of ill-health. When we think of sick, we think of hospitalization, or being "down for the count with the flu". But really, there are a bunch of signs that people are walking around unwell, unhealthy and they don't even notice. The issue is that its become commonplace for people to have these symptoms.
Common Signs and Symptoms of Being Unwell
The following list is just a fraction, but it gives you an idea of just how much of an epidemic this really is. I'll challenge you to see how many on this list do not pertain to you. While a lot of these are common, these are **not normal**. None of these signs pertain to normal or optimal function of the body. Instead they are associated with sub-par function, which ultimately if left uncorrected could lead to disease down the road.
- Brain fog
- Difficulty concentrating
- Blood sugar issues
- Cold hands/feet
- Hair loss
- Chronic muscle or joint pain
- Weight gain/loss
- Recurring fatigue
- Indigestion (GERD)
- PMS symptoms
- Painful menstruation
- Absent/irregular menstruation
- Decreased libido
- Hot flashes
As a practitioner who works mainly with clients who already have autoimmune disease, its even more common to have a plethora of these symptoms all piled up on each other. Many people with AI start off with a few of these symptoms and as is so common, the symptoms are ignored or brushed off. But with out corrective action, if left alone, disease kicks in which only gets discovered once someone has a diagnosis. (And for some, its incredibly difficult to obtain a diagnosis, yet they still are crippled with a compounding list of symptoms).
I write about this because I want to bring awareness to the idea that the body talks to us through symptoms. Its trying to communicate that something is starting to go (or already has gone) wrong. Ignoring them may work as temporary fix, but its rarely the solution. Instead, learning to listen to your body and learn its methods of communication are great steps toward recognizing that something is awry.
Maintaining a healthy dose of curiosity about the situation is key. With curiosity, one can start to discover what might be at the root cause of the symptoms to begin with. With enough investigation, you'll find it. And even if its a journey of uncovering the "layers of an onion" you will recover your symptoms and transform them into optimal vitality. Its absolutely possible to reverse and/or greatly reduce these ailments!
So, how many on those list do you deal with on a regular basis? Ready to dig in?
